Intro: Configuring Your Task Page

You can customize what mobilizers see on the Tasks page of the Mobilizer Experience. There are two special task types that you can set for them: the Build Your Network task and the Mission task. This article walks you through how to do that. You can learn more about the refreshed mobilizer experience here.

There are three types of tasks in Rally:

  • Match Yourself - This task encourages Mobilizers to match themselves to the voter file
    • Note: This task is not customizable by Rally Admins
  • Build Your Network - This task encourages Mobilizers to add contacts to Rally. As an Admin, you can define the number and type of contacts that you want your mobilizers to reach. For example, you might want to give your mobilizers a goal of adding 30 contacts who are registered to vote in a particular state or district.
  • Mission - The Mission task lets you create a group of prioritized actions for your mobilizers. You can give this group of actions a name and a description, like “Get Vote Plans” or “Talk to Your People”. All actions within a Mission have the same targeting.

Configuring Tasks & Conversations

From your Campaign Dashboard, navigate to the content page and scroll down to the section titled, “Task Page Configuration.” Next, select the Task you want to customize.

  • The "Build Your Network" Task lets you define the number and type of contacts you want your mobilizers to reach.
  • The "Mission" Task lets you create a prioritized group of actions for mobilizers under the banner of a single “mission.”

Configuring the Build Your Network Task

First, we’ll walk through setting up the "Build Your Network" Task.

  1. Set the Details associated with the task
    1. Set a name for the task: This is what mobilizers will see as the title of the task. Examples include “Build Your Network” or “Add Houston Voters.”
    2. Set a description (optional): We recommend providing information to your Mobilizers on what the task is and why it matters. If you need mobilizers to specifically add contacts within a certain geography or demographic, this is a great place to let them know that.

Example: “Add the people in your life to Rally.” “We need to talk to every voter in Nebraska – add at least 15 Nebraskans to Rally!”

Once you have completed the details section of your task, click “Next.”

  1. Define Progress
    1. Set a goal for the number of contacts your mobilizers need to add. We recommend setting a goal between 15 and 40.
    2. Set a view: If you want to narrow down the kind of contacts that count towards this goal (for example, contacts who live within a particular geography), set a Contact View to act as your criteria. If you don’t have a view ready-made with the targeting you’d like, you can make one from this page. You can learn more about views here.

When finished defining the progress of your task, click “Set.”

Configuring the Mission Task

  1. Set the task’s details.
    1. Set a name for the task: This is what mobilizers will see as the title of the task. Make it clear what they are trying to accomplish. Examples include “Talk to your people”, “Get vote plans”, “Get out the vote.”
    2. Add a Description (optional): The description field exists to make sure mobilizers know what their mission is, why it’s important, and how it contributes to the campaign’s larger goals. If this task is limited to certain contacts, explain who they’re reaching out to and why.

Sample Copy: “Get out the vote by helping your highest-priority contacts make vote plans!”

Once you have completed the details section of your task, click “Next.”

  1. Set targeting for the task..
    1. First set an answer to, “With what contacts should mobilizers take this action?
      1. Target this task just like you would any individual action. For example, you might want folks to have Get Out the Vote conversations only with people who responded “Definitely” or “Probably” on your Campaign Ladder. Or, you might want contacts only in a particular geography to be included in this task. Select a Contact View to use as your filters, or create a new one. You can learn more about views here.
    2. Then set an answer to, “Which mobilizers should take this action?”
      1. You can choose to set this task so that it only shows up for mobilizers who fit certain criteria. For example, you might choose to have the Mission task show up only for those mobilizers who have added a certain number of contacts to Rally. Use an existing Mobilizer View to set the filters on this action, or create a new one. If you leave the “Which mobilizers should take this action?" field empty, this task will be visible to all mobilizers.
    3. Next, select which Action Items you want to appear within the Mission. These actions will be grouped together within the mission and will share targeting. For example, if you have a Get Out the Vote mission, you might choose to include several actions related to vote plans. You can add as many Actions Items as you want, but we recommend keeping the number of Actions Items to 5 or fewer.
      1. Note: If you associate an action with a mission it will not appear as a separate action to take on the contact’s page. It will be accessible within the mission.

When finished defining the progress of your Mission task, click “Set.”
